CPE and CPD certificates for cyber security training providers
If you train security professionals, data specialists or engineers, you can issue your own CPE and CPD certificates. Certifying bodies such as ISC2, ISACA and CompTIA ask holders to log continuing education and keep evidence, without requiring each course to be pre-approved. A certificate that states the hours, the outcomes and a verification link is the evidence they look for.
Do ISC2 and ISACA accept CPE from independent training providers?
Yes, in general. Certification holders submit CPE for learning relevant to their certification domains, and the certifying body can audit a sample and ask for evidence. The body does not need to have approved the provider in advance. A certificate with the date, the hours and the topics covered is what an audit asks for.
That makes independent security trainers a natural source of CPE. Hands-on labs, threat research webinars and red team courses are exactly the current, practical learning these schemes were designed to encourage.
What should a cyber security CPE certificate show?
The learner's name, the course or webinar title, the date, the hours or CPE credits, and the outcomes mapped to the skills covered: incident response, cloud security, threat hunting and so on. A verification ID lets an employer or certifying body confirm it is genuine, which matters in a field that takes tampering seriously.
Why does this suit technical training businesses?
Security training businesses are usually small, technical and online first. Open CPD connects to the course or webinar platform they already run, issues branded certificates and digital badges automatically, and stores each certificate so it cannot be altered after issue.
How a live security workshop becomes a CPE certificate
A provider runs a two-day online threat hunting workshop with hands-on labs, sold to analysts holding ISC2 and ISACA certifications.
- 1Instructor-led teaching across two days
- 8 hours
- 2Hands-on lab exercises
- 6 hours
- 3Capstone hunt and debrief
- 2 hours
- 4Course profile with aims, skills and outcomes
- Written once
- 5Certificates and badges for the whole cohort
- One CSV upload
Result: a 16-hour CPE certificate per analyst, listing the skills practised, with a verification link ready for a certification audit.
How do certificates reach your learners?
Upload a CSV after a live course, or connect your learning platform through Zapier, Zoho Flow or the Open CPD API so certificates issue on completion. Each certificate is stored so it cannot be changed after issue and has its own verification page. You pay per certificate issued, with no per-course fee.

Questions cyber security and data trainers ask
Is CPE the same as CPD?
They describe the same idea. Security and audit certifications usually say CPE, for continuing professional education, while many other professions say CPD. Both are normally counted in hours, with one hour of active learning equal to one credit.
Will ISC2 or ISACA accept a certificate from my course?
Certification holders can generally claim CPE for relevant learning from any provider, and keep evidence in case of audit. A certificate showing the date, hours and topics covered is good evidence. Holders should check their own certification's current CPE rules.
Can a certificate be altered after it is issued?
No. Each certificate is stored so it cannot be changed after issue, and anyone can check it against its verification page using the unique ID.
Can I issue CPE certificates for my security courses myself?
Yes. Any training provider can issue certificates for its own courses. With Open CPD they carry your branding, the outcomes, the hours and a unique verification ID, and you can describe them as powered by Open CPD.
