CPD certificates for physiotherapy and allied health educators
If you teach physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists or other allied health professionals, you can issue your own CPD certificates. No regulator approves allied health courses in advance, so what matters is a certificate that shows what the clinician learned and that anyone can verify. Open CPD gives you that, issued straight from the course platform you already use.
Do physiotherapy courses need to be CPD accredited?
No. The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) does not approve CPD providers or individual courses. It asks each registrant to keep a continuous, up-to-date record of learning that benefits their practice and service users. The same holds in most English-speaking countries: the clinician owns the record, and the course provider supplies the evidence.
That puts the educator in a strong position. A course built by a specialist clinician, with clear outcomes and a checkable certificate, gives the learner everything an HCPC audit or a professional body like the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy looks for, without waiting on anyone's approval.
What should an allied health CPD certificate show?
The learner's name, your organisation, the course title, the date, the CPD hours, and the aims, skills and outcomes of the course. That last part is what turns a certificate of attendance into evidence of learning: it tells an auditor what changed in the clinician's practice.
A verification link matters too. Clinicians move between employers and countries, and a certificate that can be checked online in seconds travels with them.
Why do clinician-led education businesses use Open CPD?
Most clinician-led education businesses already run a polished course platform, live webinars and an on-demand library. Certificates are often the one part still done by hand, or by a plugin that produces a plain PDF. Open CPD makes that last step as professional as the teaching: a branded certificate and digital badge, issued automatically when a learner completes, each with its own permanent verification page.
How a six-module online shoulder course becomes a CPD certificate
Take a recorded shoulder rehabilitation course with a live case review, sold through a course platform such as Thinkific, Kajabi or LearnDash.
- 1Six recorded modules, with a short quiz after each
- 6 hours
- 2Live case review webinar
- 1.5 hours
- 3Reflective task on applying one technique in clinic
- 30 minutes
- 4Course profile written once in Open CPD (aims, skills, outcomes)
- Reused for every learner
- 5Certificate and badge issued when the platform marks the course complete
- Automatic
Result: an 8-hour CPD certificate showing what the clinician can now do, with a verification ID they can add straight to their HCPC portfolio.
How do certificates reach your learners?
You write each course profile once. After that, certificates can go out by CSV upload after a live event, through Zapier or Zoho Flow from platforms like Kajabi, Thinkific, Teachable and LearnDash, or through the Open CPD API if you run your own platform. You pay per certificate issued, with no per-course fee, so a large on-demand library costs nothing extra to list.

Questions physiotherapy and allied health educators ask
Does the HCPC approve CPD courses for physiotherapists?
No. The HCPC does not approve or endorse CPD providers or courses. Registrants choose their own learning and keep a record of it, and the HCPC audits a random sample at each renewal. A certificate that states the aims, skills, outcomes and hours of the course gives that record strong evidence.
Can I issue my own CPD certificates for a physiotherapy course?
Yes. Any education provider can issue CPD certificates for its own courses. With Open CPD the certificate carries your name and logo, the course aims, skills and outcomes, the CPD hours and a unique verification ID, and you can describe it as powered by Open CPD.
Will the certificate be useful for clinicians outside the UK?
Yes. Allied health regulators in Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand also expect practitioners to keep their own CPD record. A certificate with clear outcomes, hours and an online verification link works as evidence in each of them.
Does it work with Thinkific, Kajabi or LearnDash?
Yes. Certificates can be issued automatically when a learner completes a course, through Zapier or Zoho Flow, or through the Open CPD API. There is no minimum certificate volume for any of these connections.
How many CPD hours should my course carry?
Count the time a learner spends actively learning: video teaching, practical exercises, quizzes and reflection. Leave out breaks. One hour of active learning is usually one CPD hour.
