Using Open CPD on a phone or tablet
Open CPD runs in the browser, so it works on whatever you have to hand. Here is what each device is best for, and how to put it on your home screen.
Any device will do
You can sign in to Open CPD from any modern browser, on a phone, a tablet, a laptop or a desktop. There is nothing to install and no separate mobile app to keep updated.
For checking a certificate, verifying a badge or looking at your account, a phone is perfectly good and often the most convenient thing to hand. For issuing certificates, a larger screen is worth finding.
Why a bigger screen helps when you are issuing
Issuing a certificate is a small act of record-keeping that lasts. Each one carries a participant's name, the training hours and the course detail, and all of it deserves a careful read before it goes out.
On a small screen it is simply easier to miss a transposed letter in a name or an hours figure that has not updated. A laptop or desktop shows you the whole record at once, which is the difference between checking it and glancing at it. It is a working preference rather than a technical limitation.
Add Open CPD to your home screen
If you use the platform from a phone regularly, adding it to the home screen gives you a one-tap, full-screen shortcut that behaves much like an app.
- 1On Android, using Chrome
Open the Open CPD app address in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu at the top right, choose Add to Home screen, then confirm with Add.
- 2On iPhone or iPad, using Safari
Open the Open CPD app address in Safari, tap the Share icon, which is the square with an upward arrow, scroll to Add to Home Screen, then confirm with Add.
- 3Then just tap the icon
The Open CPD icon appears alongside your other apps and opens the platform full screen, without the browser chrome around it.
Issuing and sending certificates relies on a live connection, because each certificate is written to a verifiable record as it is created. If your signal is unsteady, wait until it is stable before issuing rather than part way through. Reading, checking and verifying are far less demanding and work fine on a patchy connection.
