What we're seeing from providers just starting out
Picture the moment right before a course goes live. Slides finished, sales page written, first cohort date picked. Only then does someone open a pricing page and realise they have no idea yet whether they'll issue ten certificates this year or two hundred.
That's not really a training problem. It's a pricing-visibility problem, and it hits hardest for providers who don't yet know their own volume or pace, and most pricing pages ask them to commit before that number exists.
Everyone launching a course hopes it takes off. Sometimes it does. But it's not something to plan a certification budget around, and the sliders exist for exactly that reason: to work with the numbers you actually have, not the ones you're hoping for.
Now live: connect your platform via Zapier
A different pattern, from providers further along: the platform decision is already made. Teachable, Thinkific, LearnWorlds, Podia, whatever fits the course. The course is built, the marketing is running, people are buying.
Then someone asks whether the certificate is accredited, or how digital badges fit into what they issue, and the answer isn't quite there yet. Not because the platform is wrong. Accreditation was just never really part of that decision, because it wasn't the question anyone was answering at the time.
The Zapier integration that closes this gap is now live: connect a platform that's already running to Open CPD without touching what's already working. The course stays exactly where it is. The certificate catches up to it.
The pricing tool, told straighter
The sliders on our pricing page exist because of that pattern, not as a feature launch. One certificate costs one credit. Move the sliders and see the actual difference: 25 credits for a one-off £50 if you're not sure yet how many you'll need, versus a Business plan at £45 a month for 30 certificates if you already know you're issuing regularly. Nothing hidden behind a "talk to us" form.
Packs instead of a subscription, deliberately: a new provider's rhythm isn't settled yet, and a monthly commitment assumes it is. UK-registered charities get double credits on either route, which matters more than it sounds for a provider counting every certificate against a tight budget.
What a live certificate actually carries
It's worth being concrete about what that certification fee is actually buying. Here's a real one: Understanding Orthopaedic Procedures (Basic), issued by Sinem Afrique Medical. Course date, CPD hours, delivery type, key skills, learning outcomes: all drawn directly from the provider's own material, nothing invented for the page, nothing added as extra work once the price is agreed.
That's the structure a credit actually pays for: a permanent, public, verifiable record, not just a name and a date.
Academy for Pet Loss: giving something away
Academy for Pet Loss took a similar instinct and pointed it outward. Rather than holding every lesson behind their course, they made a handful freely available, including the one on setting up a pet loss counselling practice and pricing your own sessions, as a way of showing, not just telling, what the training's actually like. Newer providers especially could learn something from that: giving something away doesn't dilute the course, it demonstrates it.
Academy for Pet Loss's free lessons are worth a look, pricing one included. And if you're working out what certification might cost for a course of your own, the sliders are there whenever you want the numbers.
